Players to Watch:
Chelsea
Frank Lampard- Lampard has had a lackluster beginning this season, and Chelsea will need a stronger performance from him in their first clash with one of the “big four” this season.
Liverpool
Fernando Torres- Torres has had two big weeks in the premier league, but they were, in part, thanks to a poor performance from the opposition’s defense. He was completely shut-down by a strong Fiorentina defense. This week his true test will come in the form of one of the best back fours in Europe, even sans Alex. Torres will have to find a way through Chelsea’s defense for Liverpool to have much of a chance.
Prediction:
Both Chelsea and Liverpool are coming off relatively shocking defeats; Chelsea to Wigan and Liverpool to Fiorentina.
Chelsea’s Midfield will have to control possession better then they have in last few outings, Joe Cole may come off the bench to help in that department. Anelka Showed that he still has that class touch in the Champions League match against APOEL and will need the midfield to produce chances for him to dazzle Liverpool’s defense.
Liverpool’s Defense was extremely shaky in their 2-0 loss to Firoentina, with Glenn Johnson going forward too often and being out of place and Martin Skrtel looking genuinely baffled during routine situations on the pitch. Gerrard and Benayoun have been on-form as of late, and will need to be top class and penetrate deep into Chelsea’s backfield to test the seldom used Hilario of Chelsea.
Chelsea 3-1
Goals Chelsea: Anelka Lampard Drogba
Goal Liverpool: Benayoun
